There are multiple types of depression, all of which are extremely complex and multifaceted. Each specific type also ranges in severity like porridge: cold, medium, and hot. Or from functioning, meaning you can complete day-to-day tasks, to debilitating. Some typical forms of the mental health disease include;

  • Major Depressive Disorder(MDD)/ Clinical Depression: Affects thinking, emotions, and behaviors.

  • Persistent Depressive Disorder(PDD): Low mood for at least two years.

  • Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Typically occurs when the climate is dark and cool. Characterized by chronic low mood, constant fatigue, and feelings of hopelessness.

  • Bipolar Disorder

These are some of the most common classifications of depression. They can be experienced by children, teens, and adults. There are also different types that are more specific among the age groups. For instance, numerous children and teens struggle with the illness Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder (DMDD) which is characterized by outbursts of extreme irritability and angry temperament. Adults often deal with Postpartum Depression which women develop after childbirth and is characterized by mood swings, insomnia, and anxiety. Situational Depression and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder are also popular diagnoses among adults.

For effective recovery, seeing a doctor and getting a proper diagnosis are most beneficial. This would allow you to seek the appropriate form of treatment that works best with both your specific type of depression and how your mental health processes.
